YOU WILL NEED

  • I use 4-medium weight yarn for all the appliqués in this pattern.

  • Colors you will need: golden brown, light brown, mustard, black, pink, and red

  • A 5mm hook

  • Tapestry needle

  • Card-stock if you want to make it into a greeting card.

Hook

The stitches/ skills you will need to know and KEY:

  • Chain (ch)

  • Slip Stitch (sl st)

  • Single crochet (sc)

  • Half double crochet (hdc)

  • Double crochet (dc)

  • Triple crochet (tc)

  • Decrease (dec)

  • Increase (inc

  • Weave ends and finish off.

CROCHET PATTERN

Head

Using honey and a 5mm hook, make a magic loop

Round 1: Work 6 sc into ring – 6 sc. Do not join, continue in a spiral.

Round 2: (2 sc) in each st — 12 sc

Round 3: [(2 sc) in next sc, sc in next sc]— 18 sts

Round 4: [(2 sc) in next sc, sc in next 2 sc]— 24 sts

Round 5: [(2 sc) in next sc, sc in next 3 sc]— 30 sts

Finish off and weave ends.

Ears

With light brown attach to any stitch from round 5 with a sc.

Make 2 hdc in the next stitch, and 1 sc in the stitch after that. Finish off and weave ends.

Make the second ear seven stitches over from the first ear.

Snout

With light brown chain 4, sc in the second chain from the hook, sc in the next chain, make 3 sc in the last chain from the hook. Now work up the other side of the chain. Make 1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the last stitch. Finish off and weave ends.

With a long piece of black yarn and a tapestry needle sew in the nose, mouth and eyes.

Use a long piece of pink yarn and a tapestry needle to sew in the cheeks.

Cap

With mustard, chain 7

Row 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, sc across (6 sc)

Row 2: sc across (6 sc) finish off and weave ends.

Row 3: Attach mustard to the second sc from row 2 with a sc, sc in the next three stitches, chain 1 and turn

Row 4: dec, sc, dec (2 sts)

Row 5-6: sc across (2 sc)

Row 7: sl st the last two stitches together. Finish off and weave ends.

Use a long piece of light brown and a tapestry needle to sew in the ridges of the cap.

Hot glue the snout and cap to the head. Use the picture as a guide.

Body— this is an oval, you’ll be working in rounds.

With honey, chain 10

Round 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, sc in the next 7 chains, 3 sc in the last chain (now work up the other side of the chain ) sc in the next 7 stitches, 2 sc in the last stitch. You should end up with with (20 sc) Do not join, continue in round.

Round 2: 2 sc in the first sc from round 1, sc in the next 7 sc, 2 sc in the next 3 sc, sc in the next 7 sc, 2 sc in the next 2 sc. (26 sc)

Round 3: *1 sc in the next sc, 2 sc in the next*, sc in the next 7 sc, repeat from *—* three times, sc in the next 7 sc, repeat from *—* two more times. (32 sc)

Round 4: *1 sc in the next 2 sc, 2 sc in the next*, sc in the next 7 sc, repeat from *—* three times, sc in the next 7 sc, repeat from *—* two more time. (38 sc)

Round 5: *1 sc in the next 3 sc, 2 sc in the next*, sc in the next 7 sc, repeat from *—* three times, sc in the next 7 sc, repeat from *—* two more time. (44 sc)

Round 6: *1 sc in the next 4 sc, 2 sc in the next*, sc in the next 7 sc, repeat from *—* three times, sc in the next 7 sc, repeat from *—* two more time. (60 sc)

Arms— MAKE 2

With light brown, chain 9

Round 1: sc in the next chain from the hook, sc in the next 6 sc, 3 sc in the last chain (now work up the other side of the chain), sc in the next 6 sc, 2 sc in the last stitch. Finish off and weave ends. (18 sc)

Glue the arms to the body, make the curving it so it looks like he is holding the heart.

Legs— MAKE 2

With light brown, chain 7

Round 1: dc in the third chain from the hook, dc in the next four chains, 3 dc in the last chain (now work up the other side of the chain), dc in the next four stitches, make 2 dc in the last stitch. Finish off and weave ends. 

For the bottoms of his feet, make 4 sc into a magic loop. Finish off and weave ends.

Glue the legs longs the bottom of the body and wrap part of the behind the body. 

Heart

With red

Make a magic loop, chain 3

Round 1: (in magic loop) 3 tr, 3 dc, chain 1, 1 tr, chain 1, 3 dc, 3 tr, chain 2, slip stitch into magic loop. Pull tight.

Round 2: Sc into chain 3 from previous round, single crochet in the top of the original chain 3.

1 sc and 1 hdc in the first trc from previous round.

2 hdc in the next tr

1 hdc, 1 sc in the next

1 sc in the next 4 sitches.

Chain 1, dc in the center tr from previous round, chain 1

1 sc in the next 4 sts

1 sc, 1 hdc in the next

2 hdc in the next

1 hdc, 1 sc, in the next

1 sc

sc in the chain 2 from previous round. slip stitch into center and finish off.

To make your bear into a greeting card. Fold a piece of heavy card-stock in half and then hot glue the bear onto the paper. Cut the side up close to the bear. And you’re done!!
