YOU WILL NEED

I use 4-medium weight yarn.. You will need one skein of each color or just use scraps that you have around.

Colors- Skin color, black, red, gold, brown and gray.

US 5mm and optional 3.75mm crochet hook

A hot glue gun and glue sticks

Felt for backing

How to make a French knot: Make a knot at one end of the strand of yarn and place the needle on the other end.Insert the needle from the back of the work to the front, wrap the yarn around the needle twice, insert the needle right next to the spot that it is being pulled up from the door and carefully pull through to the back.
How to surface crochet: Insert the hook from the front to the back of the work and pull up a loop, *insert hook in the next spot in the direction you are going from the front to the back, pull up a loop and pull the second loop through the first loop.* Repeat from *—*
CROCHET PATTERN
Face
Using two strands of red on a 5mm hook, make a magic loop
Round 1: Work 6 sc into ring – 6 sc. Do not join, continue in a spiral. Round 2: (2 sc) in each st — 12 sc
Round 3: [(2 sc) in next sc, sc in next sc]— 18 sts
Round 4: [(2 sc) in next sc, sc in next 2 sc]— 24 sts
Finish off and weave ends.
Eyes and mouth
With a long piece of black yarn and a tapestry needle, make one french knot or the eyes and mouth.
Mustache
MAKE 2- With brown and 3.75mm hook, chain 4. Finish off and weave ends. Hot glue into place.
Cheeks
Use a red Sharpie or marker and make small red dots for cheeks.
Crown
Gold Rim: With one strand of gold on a 5mm hook, chain 8 Row 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, sc across (7 sts) Row 2: sc across (7 sts)
Right Peak (continuing as row 3): inc in first stitch, sc (3 sts) Row 4: sc across (3 sts)
Row 5: dec, sec (2 sts)
Row 6: sl st in the last two stitches. Finish off and weave ends.
Middle Peak:
Row 1: Attach yarn to 3rd stitch from row 2 with a sc, sc in the next two stitches, chain 1 and turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: Sc across (3 sts)
Row 3: dec, sc (2 sc)
Row 4: Sl st in the last two stitches. Finish off and weave ends.
Left Peak:
Row 1: Attach yarn to 6th stitch from row 2 with a sc, sc in the next stitch, inc in the last, chain 1 and turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: sc across (3 sts)
Row 3: dec, sc (2 sts)
Row 4: sl st in last two stitches. Finish off and weave ends.
Using black yarn and a tapestry needle make three french knots. Use the picture as a guide.
Black Part of crown: With one strand of black yarn on a 5mm hook, chain 7
Row 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, sc across (6 sts)
Row 2-6: sc across (6 sts) Finish off and weave ends.
Attach gold to 4th stitch in row 6 chain 1, (hdc, dc) in 4th stitch, (dc, hdc), chain 1 and slip stitch into the 3rd stitch from row 6. Finish off and weave ends.
Hot glue the black piece behind the hold rim.
Hair: MAKE 6
With gray yarn and a 5mm hook, chain 6, sl st in the second chain from the hook, sl st in the rest of chain. Finish off and weave ends.
Glue these pieces behind the head, use the picture as a guide.
Torso
With two strands of red yarn on a 5mm hook, chain 8
Row 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, sc in the rest of the chains (7 sts) Row 2-6: sc across (7 sts)
Row 7: dec, 3 sc, dec (5 sts)
Finish off and weave ends.
With one strand of gold yarn and 5mm hook, make 4 surface crochets. Space these surface crochet rows out as evenly as possible.
Assembly
Use the photo as a guide and hot glue all the piece together.
Glue the entire nutcracker onto a piece of felt and the cut out the piece. You can only glue a piece of string in between the crochet and the felt to hang as an ornament.
