YOU WILL NEED

1 Skein of Ra Ra Raffia from Wool and the Gang. 15% off at Wool & The Gang click HERE You will be using 2 strands on the hook. This yarn can get really messy so make sure you have it upright on a table. You can try to make two balls or buy two skeins which might be easier. You can read about how to use the raffia yarn here

US 6.5 mm crochet hook

The stitches/ skills you will need to know and KEY:

Chain (ch)
-
Single crochet (sc)
-
Half double crochet (hdc)

Weave ends and finish off.
Gauge:
8 sc = 4 inches
7 rows = 4 inches
Final Dimensions: (Folded shut) 7 inches x 11 inches
CROCHET PATTERN
Foundation: With two strands of Raffia on a 6.5mm hook, chain 25, hdc in the third chain from the hook, hdc across, chain 2, turn. (23 hdc)
Row 1: Hdc across (23 hdc)
Row 2- 27: Repeat row 1. Keep going until you reach 13 inches.
Fold in half and sc up the two sides. 16 sc evenly.
Working back across the top— to make the front flap.
Row 1: 23 sc across
Row 2: 23 sc across
Row 3: 8 sc, chain 7, insert a sc into the 15th sc from the previous row, 7 more sc to finish the row.
Row 4: 8 sc, chain 7, insert sc into the first stitch after the chain 7 from the previous row, 7 sc in the rest of the row.
Row 5: Repeat row 4
Row 6: 8 sc, chain 3, sc across the three chain 7’s that you made connecting them all, chain 3, insert sc into the first stitch after the chain 7 from the previous row, 7 sc in the rest of the row.
Repeat rows 3-6, four more times.
Finish off weave ends.
Sc up the two sides of the front flap. 16 sc evenly.
The strap:
Insert hook and two strands of raffia into the end of the first row of the entire bag, chain 80, slip stitch into the other end of row one. Finish off and weave ends.
Use a steamer to flatten the front flap if it is curling in the corners. Enjoy!!
