CROCHET PATTERN
To start you will need to have two strands of yarn on the hook and going through the entire pattern. Take the blue yarn and the purple yarn and make a slip knot onto your hook. If you are using one skein of yarn or one color, make a second ball.
THE TAIL
Foundation: Chain 3 and make 2 hdc in the third chain from the hook. Ch 2 and turn. Note: you will chain 2 before each new row.
Row 1: 1 hdc in each stitch from the previous row = 2hdc
Row 2: 2 hdc in each stitch = 4hdc
Row 3: 1 hdc in each stitch = 4hdc
Row 4: 2 hdc in the first stitch, 1 hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in the last stitch = 6hdc
Row 5: 1 hdc in each stitch = 6hdc
Row 6: 2 hdc in the first stitch, 1 hdc in the next 4 stitches, 2 hdc in the last stitch = 8hdc
Row 7: 1 hdc in each stitch = 8hdc
Row 8: 2 hdc in the first stitch, 1 hdc in the next 6 stitches, 2 hdc in the last stitch = 10hdc
Row 9: 1 hdc in each stitch = 10hdc
Row 10: 2 hdc in the first stitch, 1 hdc in the next 8 stitches, 2 hdc in the last stitch = 12hdc
Row 11: 1 hdc in each stitch = 12 hdc, chain 3 and turn
Row 13: 1 tr in first 3 stitches, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr in the last 3 stitches = 12 stitches.
Weave ends and finish off.
THE FINS (make 2)
Foundation: Chain 7, 1 sc in the second chain from the hook, 1 sc in the rest of the chains = 6sc
Row 1: Dec, 1 sc in the next 4 stitches = 5sc
Row 2: 1 sc in the first 3 stitches, dec = 4sc
Row 3: Dec, 1 sc in the next 2 stitches = 3sc
Finish off and weave ends. You can weave the end from the ending to row 1 to pinch the top of the fin.
TO FINISH
Place the fins at the bottom of the tail. You’ll need to flip one of the fins so the long end is on the outside. See picture.
You can place the tale on a bag with hot glue or sew it to the back of a denim jacket. The possibilities are endless!
