FREE Crochet Pattern – Log Cabin

December 31, 2020

One of my favorite places to be is in the Adirondack mountains in upstate New York. This applique was inspired by the cabins in the ADK. Classic wooden logs with a green trim.

Row 21: Dec to finish off. Weave ends.

With two strands of dark green on a 6.5mm hook, chain 21. Finish off and weave ends. Repeat that so you have two strips of green.

Hot glue the green stitches to the edging of the cabin.

DOOR:

With a 5mm hook and one strand of yarn on the hook. Use a 4-medium weight yarn, I am using Vanna’s Choice from Lion Brand.

Chain 8, sc in the second chain from the hook. Sc in the rest of the chains. (7 sc)

Rows 2-10: sc across (7 sc)

Make a door knob by placing a french knot where a door knob would be, at about row 5.

With a long strand of white and a tapestry needle. Insert the needle from the back of the work to the front, wrap the yarn around the needle twice, insert the needle right next to the spot that it is being pulled up from the door and carefully pull through to the back.

For the green trim, use one strand of green on a 5mm hook and make surface crochets around the edge.

In order to make a surface crochet. Insert the hook from the front of the work to the back. Pull the yarn through just bringing up a loop on the hook. Insert the hook into what would be the next spot on the door  and pull up another loop. Pull the second loop through the first loop on your hook. Keep repeating by inserting your hook, pulling up a second loop and pulling that second loop through the first loop on the hook.

WINDOW

With dark brown on a 5mm hook, chain 5

Row 1: Sc in the second chain from the hook, sc in the rest of the chains (4 sc)

Row 2-4: Sc across (4 sc) Finish off weave ends.

Now take white to make the trim, you can either make surface crochets around the brown square like you did for the door, or make a single crochet in each stitch around.

Make 2 separate chains of 4, hot glue those chains in a cross on the window, weaving in the ends.

FLOWERS

Once you place the door on the cabin you will now make flower along the ground next to the door.

First take green and a tapestry needle to make long strands of grass and leaves. Then on top of the grass make various french knots in different colors for your flowers.

SMOKE STACK

With light grey and a 5mm hook, chain 8, sc in the second chain from the hook, sc in the rest of the chains (7 sc)

Row 2: Sc across (7 sc)

Chain 1 and make 2 sc along the side of row 1 and 2, chain 1 and turn, sc the two stitches together. Finish off and weave ends.

FINISH

Use the picture to glue and place everything together. You can glue felt to the back if you want it to be a way decoration or glue it to a tote bag or jacket.
